Welcome to this section! Here, you’ll learn how to create a dedicated space for hands-on cybersecurity exercises. A practice environment, or lab, gives you the freedom to test and explore without putting your main system or network at risk.
Set Up Virtualization Software:
Install a tool like VirtualBox or VMware on your computer. These programs let you run virtual machines, which are isolated operating systems inside your computer.
Install Virtual Machines:
Download operating system images, such as Kali Linux for ethical hacking or Ubuntu Server for testing configurations.
Create virtual machines and allocate resources like memory and storage.
Network Setup:
Configure a private virtual network for your lab. This ensures all communication stays within your lab and doesn’t affect your main network.
Load Tools and Resources:
Equip your lab with tools such as Wireshark for network monitoring, Nmap for scanning, and Burp Suite for web security testing. These are included by default in Kali Linux
A cybersecurity lab is essential for practicing safely. It’s your sandbox to refine skills, experiment with new tools, and tackle challenges in a controlled space.
Now that you know the basics, let’s move on to setting up your first virtual machine!
